STAR
LAUNCHES FIRST E-COMMERCE POS PRINTER
Star Breaks the Mould in POS Printers, Bringing
to Market Two Industry Firsts
Brand-leading POS printer manufacturer, Star
Micronics, is setting new standards in product design, with the
launch of the first printer designed with functionality specifically
for e-commerce applications, as well as the versatility to undertake
a breadth of traditional retailing transactions. The announcement
follows hot on the heels of the recently launched TSP700: the
world's fastest single station POS printer available, which outputs
at 180mm per second (over one metre of paper in 5.5 seconds).
The TSP800, also no slow coach, printing at
150mm per second, is a wide format printer, outputting to a 112mm
/ 4.4" wide paper roll - providing considerable flexibility
via this one design feature alone - and has the capability to
downsize or 'scale' A4 content (from the likes of web pages) to
this exceptional receipt format, at high speed, high quality and
in two colours! The first available printer of its kind, Star
Micronics believes that the TSP800 'fills a huge gap in the market
for scaled A4 output' and has already met with considerable enthusiasm
from those retailers looking for a high quality, versatile printer,
capable of handling its conventional in-store sales receipts as
well as the escalating online ones.
Potential applications for the TSP800, on the
basis of its downsizing/scaling facility alone, also include the
ability to download or "screen-dump" the entire content
of web pages to the 112mm-wide format in environments like cyber
cafés. Production of detailed online transaction receipts
and order confirmations, delivery of in-depth instructions, directions,
order forms and proposals from Internet stations and multimedia
kiosks are just a few of the further obvious applications for
the TSP800.
Star Micronics believes that the applications
for the TSP800 are 'simply endless' citing current pilots ranging
from Internet kiosks to downloading images from CCTV.
Versatility has been key in the design of both
the TSP800 and the TSP700. Both offer the ability to swap between
the production of standard labels, receipts, vouchers and coupons
as well as tickets, barcodes, specialist labels (such as shelf
edge up to 150 gsm) and report/form printing. Both the TSP700
and the TSP800 also accommodate a variety of paper weights, offer
two colour output (red/black or blue/black), and incorporate Star
Micronics standard-setting 'drop in & print' easy paper-loading
capability.
Larger characters and increased printed data
are also available from the wide-format TSP800 printer and a multiple
overlay feature enables users to simply develop and store templates.
ESC/POSÔ compatible, the two new ground
breaking printers also feature an autocutter, providing a choice
of full or partial cut; black mark sensor (for bar-coding applications);
a choice of serial or parallel interface (and optional USB interface)
as well as charcoal grey or Star white casing.
Both the TSP800 and TSP700 are alone in
their class: unmatched in price, performance and functionality
by any other manufacturer, a statement that Star Micronics believes
is indicative of the company's adherence to a policy of offering
customers' choice: the choice to choose a brand-leading POS printer
that truly meets their business needs, in price, application suitability
and in fulfilling their features wish list.
